Commercial Cardboard

Piles of recycled cardboard and a forklift at Ridge Meadows Recycling Society.

Running a local business is a big job, and we know that shipping boxes and packaging can pile up fast. Keeping Old Corrugated Cardboard (OCC) out of the landfill is one of the easiest ways we can work together to keep our community beautiful and reduce our local footprint.

How to Drop Off Commercial Cardboard

We have designated areas at our depot specifically for business owners and operators.
Here’s a quick guide to help you navigate your next visit:

  • For Small to Medium Loads: Please use the designated OCC bins located in the main public drop-off area.
  • For Large or Heavy Loads: If you’re arriving with a full trailer or a large commercial vehicle, we want to make things easier for you. Please see a staff member upon arrival or call us ahead of time. We will direct you to our specialized receiving area at the back of the depot to save you time and heavy lifting.
  • Keep it Clean: To ensure your cardboard can be turned into new paper products, please ensure it is free of food scraps, heavy wax coatings, or plastic liners.

Why Flattening Matters

It might seem like a small step, but flattening your boxes makes a massive difference.

When boxes are broken down:

  1. More fits in the bin: We can collect more material in a single trip, which means fewer trucks on our local roads.
  2. Safety First: It creates a much safer and more accessible environment for everyone using the depot.

Common mistake! Leaving boxes whole takes up a lot of “air space.” If you’re short on time, just a quick slice down the tape line makes a world of difference for our team and the environment.

Not sure where it goes? We can help.

If you have a unique type of packaging or you aren’t sure if your cardboard qualifies as commercial, don’t hesitate to ask. Our team is always on-site to lend a hand and ensure every person, regardless of their experience with recycling, feels welcome and supported.
