Meet Your Instructor: Dan Mikolay
Since 2007, Dan has been the friendly face of recycling in our local schools. As a parent himself and a veteran of the film and TV industry, Dan brings a unique spark of creativity to every session.
He has a special talent for connecting with children and youth of all backgrounds. Dan’s goal is to keep students laughing while they learn, ensuring that environmental stewardship feels like an exciting opportunity rather than a chore.

Choose Your Workshop
Here’s a quick guide to determine which program fits your curriculum:
General Recycling
It’s more than just putting a bottle in a bin! We teach students the “Why” behind the Three R’s: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. We dive into what items can actually be recycled in our local system and why it matters.
For older students, we introduce more complex topics like Extended Producer Responsibility Programs, showing them why British Columbia is a provincial leader in sustainability.
Worms and Compost
Composting is nature’s way of recycling nutrients from food and yard waste back into the earth to feed new plants.
- Hands-on learning allows Students to get an up-close look at worm habitats and the anatomy of a worm.
- The Big Picture is designed to help kids understand how these tiny creatures play a massive role in keeping our soil healthy and our gardens growing.
WildSafeBC
Living in our beautiful community means sharing space with wildlife. This workshop is all about keeping our wild neighbors wild and our families safe.
- Reducing Attractants offers topics on how to manage things like garbage and bird feeders at school and home.
- Safety always comes first! We provide practical advice on what to do if you encounter a bear, coyote, or other local wildlife.
